UWO marketing professor explores how adults can empower youth to create positive change

Melissa Bublitz

Melissa Bublitz, a University of Wisconsin Oshkosh associate marketing professor, helped lead a team of nine researchers to investigate the changemaker mindset and ecosystem. Their article, Rise Up: Understanding Youth Social Entrepreneurs and Their Ecosystems, was published in the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing in 2021 and has been given a new spotlight thanks to the SAGE Perspectives Blog. The new post, written by Bublitz and UW-Milwaukee marketing professor Laura Peracchio, outlines how adult allies can empower youth to create positive social change.

“In our research, we partnered with Future Coalition’s Katie Eder and 20 other youth changemakers to understand why youth take action to create social change and to develop practices for supporting youth in their change-making journey,” they write. “We use this lens—youth as changemakers who can make the world a better place—to understand youth changemakers and to identify the ecosystem that helps them to thrive.”
