Colorado State Fair celebrates 150 years
Saturday-Monday. Whether you come for the green chile sloppers, the bronco bustin’, the carnival rides, the petting zoo or simple people-watching, the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo is always a great way to get in touch with Colorado’s rural roots.
This year marks the fair’s 150th birthday, and organizers have a lot in store for visitors over its 11-day run, including fireworks shows, a mullet contest, and entertainment from Walker Hayes, Jim Gaffigan and Lady A, with special guest Priscilla Block. There also will be horse and dog shows, livestock exhibitions, a beer fest and a homebrew competition, an art sale, a rodeo, a parade, live music, food and much more.

Jen Korte buttons up Clyfford Still’s free music series
Friday. Denver music veteran Jen Korte is not the type to contort her persona or songwriting for hipster cred, which is what makes her and her band The Loss such a great pairing for the final lawn show of the season at the Clyfford Still Museum.
Despite the pedigree, it’s an approachable event and a great excuse to visit one of the city’s more architecturally interesting museums (if not actually enter it, which they also encourage). The free event begins at 5:30 p.m. at 1250 Bannock St. and requires no registration. Biker Jim’s Gourmet Hot Dogs, Denver Pops and more refreshments and snacks will be on site. Art, ice cream and cold beer
Saturday-Sunday. The Art Students League of Denver hosts its Summer Art Market in West Washington Park, at 200 Grant St., featuring artwork from more than 100 artists and vendors, along with cold beer. local food and Sweet Action ice cream.
There also will be kids activities and demos by faculty members on Saturday, Aug. 26, in ceramics (10 a.m.) and plein air painting (2 p.m.), and on Sunday, Aug. 27, in book arts (10 a.m.) and 3D printing (2 p.m.). Wagon Burners blaze into Charlie’s
Saturday. “Wagon Burners” is a term for Indigenous people who burned the wagons of colonizers — which is why it’s the perfect name for an all-Indigenous Drag show, organizers of the so-named event on Saturday, Aug. 26, said.
Setting up at Charlie’s Denver, at 900 E. Colfax Ave., the show is co-hosted by Landa Lakes (Chickasaw) and Lady Shug (Diné) with artists Sage Chanell (Shawnee), Pandora Royale (Lakota Sioux), Papi Churro (Coahuiltecan and Nahua-Otomi), Buffalo Barbie (Diné) and Miss Eartha Quake (Diné).
