Actress Simone Kessell (Our Flag Means Death) will join the second season of the SHOWTIME drama series, Yellowjackets, as the adult version of Lottie Matthews, as announced by SHOWTIME in a press release. The news comes only six days after SHOWTIME shared that Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) will play Adult Van in the upcoming season.

In Yellowjackets’s debut season, Courtney Eaton played Teen Lottie, a character who spurred several tweets hypothesizing her role in the central mysteries and lore of the series. She is also set to star in the upcoming film by director Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect) titled September 17th. The creative team behind Yellowjackets has also promoted Eaton to series regular for the second season.

The series earned seven Emmy Awards for the 2022 ceremony in writing, directing, and casting categories. Yellowjackets also scored two performance nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Melanie Lynskey (Candy) and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Christina Ricci (50 States of Fright). The program also received a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. The 74th Emmy Awards will air on September 12th on NBC, and the ceremony will be hosted by Emmy Award winner Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live).

Kessell’s recent credits include Tearepa Kahi’s Muru, Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, AXN’s Reckoning, Netflix’s Pine Gap, ABC’s The Crossing, and Stephen McCallum’s Outlaws. Kessell is also set to star in two upcoming Netflix limited series, The Night Agent, opposite Hong Chau (Watchmen) and Fola Evans-Akingbola (Ten Percent); and Wellmania, alongside Celeste Barber (The Letdown) and Virginie Laverdure (La Brea)

Per the press release, the series will enter production later this month in Vancouver. SHOWTIME has yet to confirm a release date for the second season.
