Rami Malek in talks to portray Hollywood silent film star Buster Keaton in limited television series

Rami Malek has been in talks to portray silent film star Buster Keaton in a limited series for Warner Bros. Television.

The 41-year-old actor also would co-produce the project to be directed and co-produced by Matt Reeves, 56, according to an article on Thursday by Variety.

The studio has been in negotiations for the rights to the 2022 biography Buster Keaton: A Filmmaker’s Life as source material for the series.

Keaton was born in 1895 into a vaudeville family in Kansas and made his film debut in the 1917 silent comedy film The Butcher Boy that was written, directed and starred Roscoe ‘Fatty’ Arbuckle.

His first starring role was in the 1920 comedy The Saphead that launched his career as a leading man.

Keaton became known for his wild stunts and physical comedy with a deadpan facial expression.

He formed Buster Keaton Productions with Joseph M. Schenck and started directing with his most well known films including: Sherlock Jr., Steamboat Bill, Jr. and Our Hospitality.

Keaton also worked under contract at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Columbia Pictures and had deals with independent producers.

The Batman director Reeves and his 6th and Idaho Productions company last August signed a multi-year, first-look film and television deal with Warner Bros. Pictures.

Malek won the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury in the 2018 biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

He previously earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2016 for his work in Mr. Robot.

It was confirmed last April that Reeves will return to write and direct the sequel to The Batman with Robert Pattinson, 36, reprising his role as Bruce Wayne aka Batman.

The Batman was released last March and earned $770.9 million at the worldwide box office.
