Police probing $80,000 fraud related to cryptocurrency

Oxford OPP are investigating an $80,000 fraud after an Ingersoll resident invested in Bitcoin, a digital currency.

Oxford OPP are investigating an $80,000 fraud after an Ingersoll resident invested in Bitcoin, a digital currency.

Police were called to a home on John Street at about 10 a.m. Wednesday where the Ingersoll resident stated they had invested in Bitcoin with an individual they met through a social media messenger site.

“Frauds can occur many ways and we remind the public to remain vigilant when they receive unsolicited responses and requests. If it feels wrong, it usually is,” police said in a statement. The investigation is continuing.
