Live music aids economic recovery

Bill Wojtaszak is the owner of PJ O’Reilly’s Tuggeranong, an Amp It Up! grant recipient.

PJ O’Reilly’s Tuggeranong is one of many Canberra venues using ACT Government funding to contribute to our city’s atmosphere.

More than 15 live music venues have shared in $500,000 as part of the second round of Amp It Up grants.

Developed in 2021 the fund aims to offset the costs of booking, hosting, and promoting live music and performances, combating the impacts of the pandemic to revitalise the territory’s nightlife.

Through an applications process, funding is allocated to small and medium sized venues to accommodate music and entertainment artists, which in-turn supports local musicians and acts.

Among them was PJ O’Reilly’s Tuggeranong, who are putting the funding towards their monthly entertainment schedule.

“We’re trying to develop a bit of atmosphere for people to enjoy and the funding is helping us subsidise the costs involved with putting on our entertainment,” PJ’s owner Bill Wojtaszak said.

“We have entertainment every night with the exception of Sundays and Mondays, with live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. Each month we also host a bigger act.”
