Girls basketball roundup: BBE Jaguars can’t make up for slow start – West Central Tribune

ST. CLOUD — The Hawley girls basketball stormed out to a huge first-half lead to beat Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 60-44 on Saturday in the Breakdown Granite City Classic at St. Cloud Apollo High School.

The Nuggets led 41-13 at halftime.

Brooklyn Fischer led the Jaguars with 20 points. She was the only BBE player in double figures. The Jaguars shot 31% from the field, making 13 of 41 shots. They made 36% of their 3-point attempts, 8 of 22 and were at 55% from the foul line, 10 of 18.

BBE resumes Central Minnesota Conference play when it faces Holdingford at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Belgrade.

Minnewaska edged Southwest Christian in the Breakdown Granite City Classic game at Sauk Rapids High School.

Minnewaska opened the two-day tournament with a 69-50 loss to West Fargo Horace of North Dakota.

The Lakers (6-4) play West Central Area at 5:45 p.m. Friday at Glenwood in a West Central Conference game.

Southwest Christian’s record falls to 5-4.
