First Look at HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon’ Season Finale

The season finale of House of the Dragon is approaching and according to TV Line, the trailer for the episode reveals essential information about how things will go down.

This also shows a significant difference between the writers of House of the Dragon and their predecessors in Game of Thrones. Viewers of the original show remember that the format used by the writers was that all big revelations and plot twists were made in episode nine, leaving episode ten to set up the next season. House of the Dragon decided to go in a different direction and give fans a regular pre-finale episode and an action-packed season finale episode.

Episode nine entitled “The Green Council” shows the viewers how Queen Alicent Hightower played by Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel, Ready Player One), and her father Otto Hightower played by Rhys Ifans, (Elementary, The Amazing Spider-Man) are handling the succession of the crown after the death of King Viserys played by Paddy Considine (The Outsider, Informer). The audience gets to see how the relationship between Alicent and her father has deteriorated due to their different ambitions. In episode nine, they are both trying to put Aegon played by Tom Glynn-Carney (The King, Tolkien), on the Iron Throne.

According to TV Line, in the finale, the audience will get to see Rhaenyra played by Emma D’Arcy (Mothering Sunday, Truth Seekers), the rightful heir to the throne, and her husband Daemon played by Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown), get involved in the fray. The couple will learn of the death of King Viserys and the plot to claim Aegon as the rightful heir.

In the trailer, Rhaenys played by Eve Best (Fate: The Winx Saga, Lucky Man) warns Rhaenyra that Otto, and his supporters, are coming for her and her children. The trailer then shows the Targaryen camp as they prepare to lay siege to the Red Keep. It also shows Rhaenyra looking worried, weapons being amassed and Daemon singing to his dragon in High Valyrian. The trailer is chaotic, but it is only a taste of the chaos that the audience will experience in this show.

Episodes one through nine of House of the Dragon are available to watch on HBO Max. Watch the trailer for the season finale below.
