Clemson football returned to the practice fields on Monday following Saturday’s first scrimmage of the preseason. However, the mood was not upbeat as defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin confirmed that defensive end Xavier Thomas would miss four-to-six weeks with a foot injury that the Florence native suffered during the scrimmage.

“He has had a great camp and is in a great spot conditioning-wise,” Goodwin told the media. “Unfortunate setback but he has the right mindset and will respond, and we will get him back early in the year.”

The Tigers hope Thomas could be available around the Wake Forest or North Carolina State games, depending on rehab and how the foot responds.  He is scheduled to have surgery on Monday.

You can hear Goodwin’s comments, along with those of OC Brandon Streeter and QB Hunter Johnson, below courtesy of Clemson Sports Information.
