The Clemson football team held its second and final full scrimmage of the preseason on Tuesday, and it appears the Tigers’ highly touted defense won the day. Head coach Dabo Swinney noted after the workout that the unit “responded,” adding both Toriano Pride and Nate Wiggins recorded interceptions, though he wasn’t overly impressed with the overtime period on either side of the ball.

The veteran head coach said with the Georgia Tech game being on Labor Day night, his team will do some prep work next week on Furman, the Tigers’ home opener opponent. “Game prep mode” will begin Sunday, with Tuesday being all about the Yellow Jackets.

On the quarterbacks, Swinney said it’s as talented a group as he’s ever had at Clemson. “We’ve never had a quarterback room like this. This is, top to bottom, the best room we’ve had of guys that can go play and win.”

Swinney also joked that the cooler weather in the Upstate is not quite what he wanted. “Camp Kool-Aid, unbelievable,” the Tigers’ head coach said of the 70+-degree weather. “It’ll be like a 100 when we play Furman here in a couple of weeks. Not very tough elements out here today. They got a little lucky here in camp. As coaches, we don’t like it.”
